North East Derbyshire District Council has launched a new, integrated housing and support service, Supporting Our People, to improve outcomes for residents experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
The service has been developed in partnership with P3 Charity and Rykneld Homes LTD and represents a significant step forward in improving both the quality and accessibility of supported housing in the district.
The new service has been developed to address a range of challenges identified within North East Derbyshire, including limited access to provision, delays in referrals, and repeated cycles of homelessness for some individuals whose needs were not fully met.
Supporting Our People introduces a locally controlled, person-centred model that combines accommodation with tailored support.
The Council has invested in improving the quality of supported housing in the district, including redevelopment of properties such as The Spinner (Formally The Spinning Wheel pub) in North Wingfield, now repurposed into safe, high-quality accommodation with on-site support being based in the building.
Cllr Nigel Barker, Leader of North East Derbyshire District Council, and portfolio holder for housing said, “This new service marks a major step forward for North East Derbyshire. “Supporting our people is our service, controlled and managed by North East Derbyshire’s Housing Options Team and P3 in the right way”.
Niall Clark, Managing Director of Rykneld Homes said, “This is a real step forward in the way North East Derbyshire District Council are supporting residents, working with P3. Rykneld Homes as the councils strategic housing partner are proud to involved and to play our part in helping residents find a place to call home.
“Providing safe and decent homes is our priority but it isn’t just about the property, it’s about supporting people – this project will do just that.”
Lee Pepper, Assistant Director of Communities and Environmental Health said, “This is about creating a system and service that works for our residents.” The service has been set up with North East Derbyshire residents in mind, by providing housing support that offers stability, where people can recover and move forward with confidence”.
